Whether it’s a ploy to improve sales figures or a means to satisfy their own creative urges, these Japanese bakeries have a thing for character-inspired breads. They’ll produce pastries of any given shape, from Pokemon to pandas and even the famous Mt. Fuji! However, some shops exhibit a bit more skill than others. Here’s a look at some of Japan’s more unfortunate attempts at baking character bread.
▼ First up, my “special” neighbor, Totoro!
▼ At least this “spirit of the forest bread” is a little less cross-eyed.
▼ We assume this is an attempt at the amazing robo-cat, Doraemon.
▼ Is it really so hard to align the eyeballs?
▼ We think this visage of Funasshi was drawn on with a ball-point pen.
▼ This chocolate bread calls itself Hello Kitty. We find its execution a little half-baked.
▼ This Pikachu bread appears to have been sat on my a Snorlax. Anpanman in the background isn’t doing too well either…
▼ Okay, to be honest, this Kobito bread is actually pretty accurate but in no way appealing to our taste buds!
▼ Good luck guessing what animal this bread was meant to be.
Hint: It’s not Miley Cyrus, but close.
▼ These lopsided cone-heads are actually bread-ifications of Mt. Fuji.
▼ It’s an infestation of turds! No wait. Actually it’s a pile of stag beetle bread.
▼ Be sure to eat it while it’s still warm.
