What would you think if you came across this guy on your way to class in the morning? Perhaps if you were in Japan you’d barely bat an eyelid, but this real-life Pokemon was spotted on the campus of a Chinese university!

A passerby at Shanghai University in China stopped to take photos of this bizarre bike parked nonchalantly alongside all the other perfectly ordinary ones. In a way it’s quite adorable, but it definitely doesn’t seem at all practical.

Who would possibly ride something like this?! Thankfully the photographer didn’t have to spend the rest of their lives pondering that burning question. The owner of the bike soon turned up, got on it like it was the most normal thing in the world, and trundled off. If only there was a video too – I’d love to see how this thing actually moves.

The blogger posted the snaps to Weibo, China’s microblogging platform, where they quickly spread. Netizens were apparently able to work out that the ‘person’ riding the ‘bike’ was actually a Japanese student who had made the unique mode of transport himself.

While the rider has obviously modeled himself after Pokemon poster-child Pikachu, we’re so not so sure what the bike design is based on, but they do go together like two odd peas in a pod!
