While you can quibble about its pacing and simplistic combat engine, there’s no arguing that Capcom’s Okami is one of the most visually breathtaking video games of all time. Whether you’re talking about the 2006 original or the more recent HD remaster for the PlayStation 3, the ink brush painting-inspired graphics are beautiful enough to bring tears to your eyes, so when they do, why not reach for a tissue from inside this awesome Okami tissue box cover?

Okami’s plot is a hodgepodge of Japanese mythology and folklore, often giving a humorous tweaking of the nose to the exalted figures involved. The game’s protagonist is Amaterasu, the Shinto sun goddess, represented in-game by a wolf with white fur and, frequently, the loveable mannerisms and personality of a pure-hearted dog.

Part of Amaterasu’s Okami makeover is the stylistic swirls along her back, some of which seem to be flames. It’s a little harder to tell what the white plumes are supposed to be, though. The obvious conclusion is that they’re tufts of fur, but they seem a bit too light and airy for that. Are they clouds?

While we may never know for sure about the in-game Amaterasu, we can say with 100-percent certainty what they are in this awesome piece of Okami merchandise. They’re tissues!

Available here from the E Capcom online store, the 4,937-yen (US $42) polyester cover may or may not actually provide your Kleenex with divine protection, but it will undoubtedly make your living room cooler, while wordlessly broadcasting to your guests that you’re a person of refined tastes in video game aesthetics.

If you’re looking to add even more Okami accents to your interior, there’s also an 800-milimeter-long (31.5-inch) cushion for 8,800 yen, and a wooden clock for 15,000 yen that features the 12 Chinese zodiac deities who teach Amaterasu their mystic Celestial Brush techniques during her epic adventure. Purchasers of the cushion and clock, which can be ordered here and here, also receive the Okami postcard.

Finally, if you were impressed by the wooden Dragon Ball mugs we showed earlier this week, you’ll be happy to know that similar drinking vessels are available for Okami. Sizes range from 380 millilitres to two liters (12.8 to 67.6 ounces) and prices from 5,184 to 14,904 yen. The four mugs can be ordered at these separate pages, and once again, all include the postcard.

Now if you’ll excuse off, we’re off to cry over how boring our tissue boxes look.

▼ Nope, it’s just not the same.
