Even if you’re not a particular fan of Sailor Moon, you’ve got to love Japan’s cute sailor school uniforms. Fun fact: the original sailor school uniforms in Japan were modelled after the British Royal Navy’s uniforms. But sailor uniforms aren’t just for school – there’s a big industry in Japan for “nanchatte“, aka “just for fun” sailor uniforms,  and these jellyfish- and galaxy-print suits are just about the coolest we’ve seen!

The range of four “Neo Graphic Sailor Uniforms” were announced by party costume company Clearstone, and are set to go on sale from March 2. The suits, priced at 7,990 yen (US$66 ) each, come in four different prints, and consist of a top, skirt and neck ribbon. Let’s check them out!

We think our favourite might just be the “Cosmic Dust” version, which features some pretty gorgeous astral scenery on the skirt, collar, cuffs and neck ribbon. We’re not sure where we’d wear it, but we know we’d look out of this world!

The “Heavenly Flash” suit features a demure pink print of fluffy, cotton-candy like clouds, which is in general much more subtle than the cosmic fandango that’s going on with the first outfit. If you look closely you can sort of see that a bolt of white lightning has lit up the sakura-pink sky, hence the “flash”. This would be amazing to wear to a cherry blossom viewing party!

The “Glowing Jellyfish” suit is probably the wackiest of the bunch, and features a bunch of almost phosphorescent jellyfish floating serenely across the skirt, collar, cuffs and neck ribbon of the suit. To be honest, we’re having trouble taking our eyes off this picture. There’s something that’s just so soothing and relaxing about jellyfish!

The turquoise-blue hue of the “Emerald Aqua” suit makes us feel like we’re standing on the shores of a crystal-clear ocean or about to dive into a big, luxurious infinity pool.

These bold yet stylish suits make Sailor Moon and her pals look like a bunch of finger-paintings in their primary colours! We kinda wish there was a tie-in anime featuring Cosmic Girl and Jellyfish Girl. Maybe Aqua Girl would have some sort of water-bending powers. Oh, and Heavenly Flash Girl would be able to utilise the divine power of storms! Sadly, though, there’s no anime – just a bunch of crazy cute nanchatte sailor uniforms, which can be purchased at selected Don Quixote stores in Japan, or online via Artemis Tokyo.
