Takeshi Kamisato is absolutely hypnotizing to watch. The Hawaiian native is a self-described “yo-yo superhero master,” not to mention a pro at the Japanese spinning top, as well as having been an avid skateboarder for over 20 years.

It’s hard not to like a guy whose “passion for life is infectious,” and even harder to deny his unmistakable skills in the following video!

Traditional Japanese spinning tops, known as koma (独楽), are a popular form of entertainment for children in Japan, just as they are in many other countries of the world. They come in a wide variety of colors, sizes and shapes, such as the following:

Check out the following charming video about koma if you’d like more background information about the toy.

Now, we all know (and are jealous of) those few individuals who have been able to take a childhood pastime and turn it into a full-time hobby, something which one Hawaiian man has done with his passion for yo-yos and spinning tops. Born in Wahiawa on the island of Oahu, Takeshi Kamisoto is truly on “top” of the world with his talents!

The following is a beautifully shot video dedicated to some of his gravity-defying spinning top tricks. You might want to get into a comfortable position, because you’re going to want to play the clip over and over again once you get a taste of Kamisoto’s effortless skills.

▼ Why would you ever use only one top when you can use two?

5

▼ Just felt like hangin’ upside down.

▼ But seriously, HOW!??

In terms of popularity overseas, Japan’s koma spinning tops seem to be overshadowed by their other traditional toy cousin, the kendama. Perhaps masters such as Kamisato can help bring the koma into the limelight for the recognition it deserves.
