Watch 80s anime classics come to life in these amazing picture books created by a veteran anime artist when he was in high school.
One of the simplest ways to create your very own anime is with a pencil and a notepad. By drawing slightly different images on each sheet, the pictures appear to animate when the pages are flipped, simulating motion and bringing stories to life on paper in a charming way. While tiny flip books can be found in Japanese bookstores, where they often appear by the register to tempt customers as a last-minute purchase, one Twitter user has become the envy of thousands of art lovers, with a special, one-of-a-kind flip book created by her talented father.

▼ First up, there’s the Ideon mecha from Space Runaway Ideon, which was created and directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, who’s best known for creating the Gundam anime franchise.
▼ Then there’s an appearance by Momo from Magical Princess Minky Momo, which first aired on Japanese television in 1982.
While the third flip book contains a cool fight scene, the fourth book has an impressive series of images that looks to be taken from 1982 anime series Combat Mecha Xabungle, with a giant mecha appearing to take off and fly over our heads.
With tens of thousands of likes and retweets, the tweet has clearly become a favorite for Twitter users, who have fallen in love with the beautiful books.
“Wow – these are amazing!”
