Russian Origami Master Creates Beautiful Replicas of Famous Landmarks

“Origami. What? The crazy art of paper folding from, that’s right, Japan.”

Even Ryan from The Office can’t help but give a nod to Japan and their “crazy” art of origami.  Even the word itself is a loanword from Japanese that is now used all over the world to denote the act of folding and contorting paper into different shapes.

Given Japan’s strong ties to the art form, one would think that Japanese artist have a monopoly on origami creations.  However, Sergey Tarasov, a schoolteacher in a small village in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, has earned the nickname, “Origami Master.”

Two girls from the Ukraine have made a splash around the world with their unusual aesthetic choices.

First we have newcomer, 19 year-old Anastasiya Shpagina, who’s industrial strength make-up job transforms her into three dimensional warm blooded anime girl.  In the other corner we have 21 year-old Valeria Lukyanova, who surprised the world with her appearance of a “Real Barbie Doll” which is rumored to be the result of extensive plastic surgery.

Nothing says traditional Russian fold crafts like Matryoshka dolls. Go to any gift shop in Russia and you’re sure to find a set of the little wooden figures on sale.

Sometimes you can even find dolls painted with a quirky theme, such as famous musical acts or soviet leaders. One of our reporters came across a set of President Obama & family Matryoshka dolls on sale for about US $30 at a souvenir shop in Sakhalin.

Needless to say, he bought it on the spot.
