Over on the Japanese side of RocketNews24, we run a lot of article about both Japan and the international world. If you’re starting to feel confident with your Japanese ability, it’s not only a great way to practice your Japanese reading skills, but you can learn a lot of weird and cool stuff. And sometimes you can also find articles that are simply amazing.
Today, we have one of those “simply impressive” articles to share with you!
Obviously, Japan loves Disney movies. You’d have to search for quite a while to find someone who wouldn’t enjoy a weekend at Tokyo Disneyland, and we’re pretty sure the company has as much cultural clout in Japan as it does in the United States. A trip to karaoke will rarely end without someone at least attempting a drunken, slurred rendition of “A Whole New World” from Aladdin. And Mickey Mouse’s face is always easy to spot in nearly every shopping mall, department store, and toy store.
So, when a new a cappella Disney medley video popped up on YouTube, you can imagine that it attracted the attention of some Japanese users. And when the video starred only two people making every, single gorgeous sound you hear, you can imagine how impressed people from Hokkaido to Okinawa were: VERY!
Featuring two American singers–Alex G and Peter Hollens–and produced with cooperation from Disney itself, the video shows them singing in various locations, dressed vaguely like characters from the movies. Using songs from The Lion King, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast, the pair employ nothing more than their voices to produce the backing rhythm and melody in addition to belting out the lyrics with aplomb.
Of course, by now, we’re starting to get used to amazing a cappella work, but these two did a stellar job! It’s pretty hard to deny their talent, and with over two million views so far, it’s obvious that we’re not the only ones who loved this video. Be sure to check it out below and let us know if you enjoyed it as much as we did.
And now we’re thinking it’s time for Mr. Sato to make an a cappella video! Maybe an AKB 48 cover…but he’ll have to make a music video in costume too.
