Hot on the heels of its Project Morpheus virtual reality headset, Sony has announced a series of brand new gaming accessories that are sure to make a splash. Say hello to PlayStation Flow, a set of swimming goggles, arm and leg sensors, and even a full-body dryer.
These things almost seem too bizarre to be true…
Unveiled earlier today via PlayStation Blog, Sony’s newest piece of gaming hardware promises immersion on more than one level. Put together by the PlayStation Wearable Entertainment Technology (PWET) division, PlayStation Flow is designed to let players experience swimming in video games in real-time, taking to the water when their on-screen character does.
“When you get to a swimming environment in your game,” PWET presenter says with a satisfied smirk, “simply pause the game, sync your PlayStation Flow goggles, and grab your Flow sensors. Then head to your nearest swimming pool and dive right back into the action.”
At last! We can finally enjoy driving across town, diving into the pool and pretending to pull up a submerged wooden pallet for The Last of Us‘ Ellie to use as a raft and… Hey, wait a minute, what date is it today again??
Very cheeky, Sony. Very cheeky indeed.
