The iPhone4S had been on the market nary a month when I got my hands on mine. I’d had my beloved 16 GB dream machine for nary a week when my three-year-old son got his hands on it and dunked it in the bathtub.
By the time I realized what had happened, I was already too late. I used a hair dryer to dry off as much water as I could, but try as I might, I was unable to resurrect my iPhone4S.
I went to the Apple Store in Ginza right away and explained what happened to the staff member that helped me out. She gave me the red carpet treatment, waiving the repair price (16,952 yen) and going so far as to whip out a brand-new replacement phone! I was so thrilled and touched that I thanked her and bowed over and over as I exited the store.
It seems as though Apple charges a fee to correct the results of accidents that occur intentionally, but it made a special exception this time because my young son caused the damage unintentionally. I am very grateful and moved that Apple would do this.
I already have an iPhone4S and an iPad, but Apple’s response in this situation has convinced me to change my PC from Windows to a Mac. That is my way of saying thank you to everyone at the Ginza Apple Store!
