Twitter is almost universally popular nowadays. While Facebook is seeing declining usage in Japan and among teens in general, Twitter seems to be hanging on to its popularity. It’s hard to say how long this will last–does anyone remember Mixi?–but for now, getting attention on Twitter in Japan is still a big deal.
So when Reika Oozeki’s Vine video got retweeted almost 5,000 times, we had to check it out!
Vine, in case you don’t spend all day on the Internet, is the video equivalent of Twitter–a short video (about six seconds long) can be captured and uploaded. It will then play on repeat like an animated GIF, but it also has sound. The short, punchy nature of Vine videos makes them the perfect complement to Twitter, allowing people to express more than what 140 characters on a screen will allow.
Reika Oozeki, a high school student from Tokyo, has an active Twitter page with nearly 34,000 followers where she posts videos of herself…and One Direction? Well, we’re not sure about the boy band, but we can safely say that she’s struck comedy gold with her Vine videos!
Here are some of Reika’s most popular Vines so far. We’ll post translated transcripts below each video.
First up, Reika explains the differences between how girls act with their boyfriends vs with their friends.
▼Going to Disneyland…
When going to Disneyland with your boyfriend: This is so fun! Let’s take our time!
When going to Disneyland with your friend: LET’S GO! LET’S GO! LET’S GO! RUN! RUN! RUN! THEY’RE GONNA RUN OUT OF FAST PASSES!
▼Getting in a snowball fight…
A snowball fight with your boyfriend: Hooray! Gya! Oh, stop it!
A snowball fight with friends: GROWL! YOU DID IT NOW! FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU!
▼Riding a roller coaster…
Riding a roller coaster with your boyfriend: Whee! [In a cute but enthusiastic voice]
Riding a roller coaster with your friends: YOOOOOOO! OMG! OMG! GOOOOOOOOOOO!
Of course, she doesn’t just talk about boyfriends all the time! Here’s how she reacts when someone catches her picking her nose.
How I react when someone catches me picking my nose.
Reika also gets a bit nostalgic describing the difference between elementary, junior high, and high school students.
▼Going to get some food after school.
Elementary school: Let’s go to Dagashiya (a candy store).
Junior high school: You wanna go to Dagashiya?
High school: Saizeriya (a chain Italian food restaurant)! Sushiro (a cheap conveyor-belt sushi restaurant)! Okay, let’s go! Time to get fat!
▼Falling down.
When an elementary student falls down: Mamaaaaaaa!
When a junior high school student falls down: This doesn’t hurt at all! Bah!
When a high school student fall down: Oh, man, I think the bone is completely broken. Yeah.
And, to round out this Best of Reika Oozeki’s Vines, here’s her take on her relationship with her brother.
▼On deleting her brother’s saved anime.
When my brother realizes I deleted his anime shows:
REIKA! Did you erase my anime?!
Yep.
Okay, I’m gonna kill youuuuuuuu!
▼On how her brother has changed over the years.
My older brother a long time ago: Let’s go play soccer!
Now: I wanna be a NEET (Not Employed or undergoing Education or Training; implying a burnout). I am so SAD!
We hope you enjoyed these videos as much as we did. We think this girl might have a brilliant career as an entertainer ahead of her.
Hmmm…Quick someone sign her up as a replacement in case something ever happens to Mr. Sato!
