16 Manga Mash-ups including Attack on Crayon and Pooh’s Bizarre Adventure

Apr 7, 2014

Anime and manga tend to have an overall defining style that has evolved (or devolved depending how you look at it) over the ages. However, it’s really a far more diverse collection of artwork ranging from the cartoony fun of Sazae-san and Crayon Shin-chan to the stark yet attractive contrasts of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and eerie atmosphere that opened Attack on Titan.

So what if we took these different styles and smashed them together like so many mud pies at my 10-year high school reunion? Why, these 16 drawings found on Twitter of course.

First to warm up, here’s how Attack on Titan would look in the style of Sazae-san.

Although it does have it’s moments, Detective Conan (Case Closed) is slightly less gruesome, but still very cute in Sazae-san style.

Although going outside of the genre, this Steve Jobs done up in Sazae-san style looks so good you could imagine him bringing home an iEgg-Cracking-Machine to the family.

Another cutesy manga and anime is Crayon Shin-chan who also has a take on Attack on Titan.

And Hatsune Miku.

And Pokemon.

On the other hand, sometimes a cute character can come out more edgy like this Yu-Gi-Oh rendition of every Japanese toddler’s hero, Anpanman.

Continuing in the theme of cutely dark characters is Sgt. Frog done in the style of Gegege no Kitaro.

And there’s also a Gegege no Kitaro style Maetel from Galaxy Express 999 which came out a little too creepy for comfort.

“Mr. Mizuki really can draw beautiful women!”

Going extra creepy is this Evangelion frame done in the style of Kazuo Umezu.

“Why don’t you just try to smile! Tck!”

Less intentionally creepy is this Captain Tsubasa version of Masahiro Tanaka’s favorite group Momokuro.

Here’s a Good Day for Gag Manga take on Hunter X Hunter.

“Talk to the hand(s).”

And an ultra-hyper-overboard realistic look at Hunter X Hunter in the style of JoJo.

Keeping on the JoJo train, I originally thought this was Christopher Robin done up in Hirohiko Araki’s style. However, it’s actually figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu with a Winnie the Pooh stand backing him up… As long as litigious eyes aren’t watching.

And finally, a fitting mash-up of Dragon Ball and what some might call it’s successor, Hunter X Hunter.

Althought Moomin isn’t Japanese they sure have adopted it as such. And so we’ll leave you with one final Moomin/Gintama mash-up.
