Every cat owner has, at one time or another, experienced the soul-crushing disappointment that comes from giving your cat a thoughtful gift, only to have them throw it back in your face in favor of a paper ball or a plain old cardboard box. It’s almost as if cats the world over are in on some sort of conspiracy designed to make their owners feel inadequate. And that’s exactly what happened to “kitty blogger” Udama when they attempted to create a cosy, cat-sized kotatsu to delight their feline family members. As our pictures show, the experiment didn’t exactly go according to plan…
Perhaps inspired by the recent trend for providing your kitty with a cosy cat-sized bed, Udama created the cat-tatsu using a wooden framework and blankets before getting ready to snap photos of feline ecstasy as the cats discovered their new gift. No doubt Udama was hoping for some adorable shots to display on her website, but what she ended up with was something of a minor cat-astrophe…
▼ Haru-kun displays early interest in the wooden framework that will form the structure of the kotatsu.
▼ With the addition of a cosy blanket, the cat-tatsu is ready!
▼ Curiosity draws Haru-kun closer, but he seems to be having trouble finding his way in.
▼ With a little guidance from his owner, Haru-kun tentatively investigates…
▼ But what’s this? Is that a look of skepticism we see on Haru-kun’s furry features?
▼ “So, what’s the deal with the tiny table the hooman’s so excited about?” asks Riku-kun as Haru-kun emerges. “See for yourself, bro” suggests Haru.
▼ Uh-oh! It looks like the cat-tatsu is giving Riku-kun a sad. Perhaps he’s just not feline it.
▼ “You… I don’t know what you’re trying to pull, but this kitty’s not falling for it! Now fetch me an old cardboard box and my threadbare catnip mousy. STAT!”
▼ Eventually, though, Riku decides the cat-tatsu will suffice as a nice perching spot. It seems the traditional kotatsu snack of a mikan fruit is entirely lost on him, however…
We can’t help but feel a bit sorry for Udama, who must have been crushed to see all that effort go unappreciated. Still, that’s cats for you! Better luck next time…
