Disney’s elegant princesses and cute characters have earned them legions of fans around the world. In Japan, adults of all ages are smitten, unashamedly saving up for specially branded clothing and accessories, and using precious vacation time for day trips to Tokyo Disneyland.
This love for all things Disney has resulted in three stores exclusive to Japan that cater directly to the adult market. Fukuoka and Chiba have each been blessed with a unique branch of their own, but it’s the newly opened store in Tokyo’s Harajuku, the birthplace of kawaii culture, that really sets out to impress.
Come with us as we take you through the store, with its pretty princess accents and attractive displays filled with bags, jewellery, smartphone accessories and more.
The store sits in the new Harajuku ALTA building, which opened on March 7 on the famed Takeshita-dori shopping strip. The third in the world of its kind, it has a castle-like exterior which continues inside with tiled floors and pretty cabinets.
While most Disney stores around the world follow a special unified design, this space is unique, with tiny details waiting to be discovered. Hiding in this smartphone cover display stand are tiny, graceful images of Mickey Mouse. Can you see him?
Why should kids have all the fun? These magic mirrors, designed for adults, are positioned at a perfect height for catching a glimpse of some animated friends.

While the store is filled with beautiful details, it’s the merchandise that will have people lining up at the door.
And once you’ve made all your purchases, the wait in line to pay is made all the more easier with so many intricate decorations around the cashier counter.
The roses adorning the columns around the screen actually change colour, from a vibrant pink to a deep red.
Whether you’re a fan of Disney or not, this is a mature, sophisticated store that’s definitely worth visiting, and there really is no other place with quite the same selection anywhere else in the world!
