One-Punch Man anime is coming back for a second season!

op-3

It sounds too good to be true, but it’s actually happening.

Immensely enjoyable as it was, while it was airing, One-Punch Man felt, in so many ways, like the sort of anime that would be done for good after a single season. With a staff that poured an immense amount of talent and passion into the show, but very little in the way of merchandisable characters, it seemed like the animated adventures of ennui-stricken, plainly named superhero Saitama were destined to be the sort of thing veteran Japanese animation fans would speak of fondly for years, before ending their conversations with a sigh and a wistful “Why didn’t we get any more of that?”

So it’s all the sweeter to find out that we are, in fact, getting more One-Punch Man. Even better, the new project is not a series of shorts exclusive to the Internet or DVD, but a full-fledged second season of TV broadcast anime.

The news came last Sunday at the One-Punch Man Autumn Festival fan event, which included live performances of the show’s opening and ending themes by JAM Project and Hiroko Moriguchi, respectively.

No timetable has been set for the show’s return, but with the autumn TV season, which lasts roughly 13 weeks, just about to kick off in Japan, it doesn’t look like One-Punch Man’s Season 2 premiere will be coming until early 2017 at the very earliest. Still, it’s good to know that we’ll be getting Saitama back, even if we’re not sure exactly when just yet.
