While Amazon Japan may have its share of amusing, inappropriate, and disturbing reviews written by its customers, this (hopefully) mistaken listing is all on Amazon.
With rumors of a live-action remake of Studio Ghibli’s Kiki’s Delivery Service swirling, attention has been focused on the original movie. And now questions about the true nature of the adore cat Jiji are starting to surface. What are we talking about? Well…
This all started with one piece of movie-related merchandise listed on Amazon Japan’s site. While the title claims to be a planter cover with the mind-numbingly cute Jiji from Kiki’s Delivery Service, the photo is of something entirely more… sinister: figurines of a withered, misshapen alien!
▼The title? “Planter Cover with Jiji from Kiki’s Delivery Service.”
Definitely NOT “Horrifying Aliens.”
“What the… how could this be?” cried disturbed and perplexed Ghibli fans. No matter how you look at this, it’s just not the black cat Jiji. And it’s definitely not a planter cover.
But wait, maybe the alien transforms into the Jiji planter cover? Or, and this is even more unbelievable, but maybe—just maybe—the alien IS the true form! Maybe that adorable black cat we know from the movie is actually just the alien pretending to be a cat.
▼Well, you weren’t planning on sleeping again, right?
We don’t know any more. We just don’t know any more! Is up down? Is left right? Are adorable bunnies actually terrifying monstrosities???
Oh, Jiji, what’s happened to you!?
And what happens to us if we order this anyway? Would we get the planter cover with Jiji from Kiki’s Delivery Service? Or would we get get one of those terrifying aliens? Or do they ship the alien and then, before our very eyes, it morphs into Jiji?
We can only pray that someone has mistakenly uploaded the wrong photo and not accidentally revealed Ghibli’s darkest secret!
(Ah! Order is restored. The correct image has been uploaded. But…now how will I get my magical alien figurines?)
