With the world’s knowledge quite literally at our fingertips, the sheer amount of information available to us can be overwhelming. With the ability to look up anything from recipes to diagnostics and treatments for diseases at the touch of a button, how are we to know what to believe?
A doctor’s office in Japan has posted a list of 10 tips to help patients weed through all the falsities in order to make the best decisions about their medical care.
Twitter-user @kiyomizu5 posted a photo on her account last week of a sign posted at her doctor’s office, titled “10 tips to proper medical care”. Inspired by the list, she decided to share her doctor’s wisdom with the rest of the internet.
1. Take common knowledge with a grain of salt.
2. Don’t believe what you hear on TV and in the newspaper.
The media often skews the truth for a better story, and advertisers are only trying to market their product.

3. Get your information from a wide range of books and websites.
There will always be conflicting views about everything, so check the facts. It’s important to also make sure your sources are legit.
4. Listen to your body and believe your intuition.
5. Be informed of the immunoreaction needed to heal the symptoms.
6. Understand that an illness is a message from your body.
Getting sick from working or playing too hard is your body’s way of telling you to slow down.
7. Know that traditional medicine is used in Japan and throughout the world, and is highly effective.
8. Know that Western medicine is for treatment in emergency medical situations.

9. Know that traditional medicine is for treating general poor health, like colds.
In other words, regarding the two tips above, you don’t need to go to the emergency room for the sniffles, and you don’t want to try curing cancer with herbs.
10. Know that when you’re not feeling well, it’s better to stop doing something than it is to start doing something.
If you’re down with a cold, it would be better to take a break from your regular life to let your body rest, than it would be to, say, start taking vitamin C supplements.
What are your thoughts on this advice? We here at RocketNews24 aren’t medical professionals, so while we can’t give our “official seal of approval”, we can say that a lot of these tips do seem like pretty sound advice. However, as always, consult a medical professional you trust before diagnosing or treating yourself!
