Moms are the best, especially when you make an off-hand comment asking them for something and they turn around and give you pure awesomeness.
Those of us who remember Final Fantasy VI (or Final Fantasy III in North America) for the SNES, will fondly recall the brilliant cast of characters that we got to know throughout the game. The 16-bit sprites were one of the many iconic highlights, so many old-school fans were less than pleased when the recent re-release of the game featured smooth, non-pixelated characters.
▼ Even Terra looks disappointed with her new form.
Many folks online in Japan have been reminiscing about the good ol’ days and posting photos of various memorabilia and art in appreciation of the game. Twitter user @BS_teppei saw one such picture and casually asked his mom to make it out of beads, since she was into beading, because in some ways pixels and beads really aren’t so different.
@BS_teppei probably wasn’t expecting much when he made that offhand comment, but a mother knows that when you get a request like that from your son, it’s time to step up your game and show the world your abilities. Trust us when we say, this mom has got some skills!
▼ “Since I heard that my mom’s hobby is beading, the other day I casually said, ‘I saw this picture on the Internet. Can you make this?’ expecting nothing. Then she went and finished this high quality piece exceeding my imagination.”
▼ The mom changed the pixel image on the left to the beauty on the right.
▼ It’s just so pretty!
▼ Work in progress
Who would have thought the video game pixel medium would transfer so well into beads? All the characters we love are instantly recognizable at a glance in this fashion, plus they’re all so shiny in the very best way. One might say they even look better than the original picture, or at the very least, more “beadiful”.
It just goes to show that you should never underestimate your mom, although if this tweet goes viral, @BS_teppei’s mother might become much busier with her beading hobby than she ever wanted to be.
