Fans of Free! and its High Speed! feature film adaptation can now visit all the places their favorite swimming boys would have frequented.
It’s no secret that the town of Iwami in Tottori Prefecture served as the model for Iwatobi, the fictional setting of the immensely popular Free! TV anime series, which in turn was based on Koji Oji’s High Speed! light novel. In fact, the Iwami Tourism Association has used this fantasy connection to promote tourism in the region, especially after the December 2015 release of the High Speed! -Free! Starting Days- feature film prequel. Here is a sampling of some of the collaborative goods you can find in the town:
Fans of the series will be pleased to note that the Association has also recently released a special map of the town which compiles all of the High Speed! film’s real-world tie-in locations:
▼ “The High Speed! film tourism map for the town of Iwami has been completed! It is being distributed by the Iwami Tourism Association.”
We haven’t gotten a chance to make our pilgrimage to Tottori yet, but be sure to pick up a copy of the map if you’re passing through!
