The speed and accuracy of her bottom was truly astounding.
On the weekend, families around Japan sat down to watch 24-Hour Television, an annual live telethon event featuring inspiring stories and celebrity guests that helps to raise funds for welfare, disaster relief, and environmental causes.
In amongst the program’s interviews and musical performances was a segment that stood out above the rest, and it involved Japanese freestyle wrestler Saori Yoshida bursting balloons with her bottom.
Take a look at a clip from the segment below:
Though it might look like a zany comedy skit, this was actually a Guinness World Record attempt performed by Yoshida, who quickly became a household name in Japan after winning three consecutive gold medals for her country in women’s freestyle wrestling at the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Olympic Games.
Despite walking away with the silver at the 2016 Olympics, where she tearfully apologised in interviews for not taking home gold as the Japan Olympic team captain, Yoshida won a place in people’s hearts for her courage and determination.
So when she appeared on Japanese television screens on the weekend, people were ready to cheer for the athlete once again, and when it was announced that her next challenge would be bursting balloons with her buttocks, people rubbed their hands together in excited anticipation. After all, a pro wrestler of Yoshida’s status would have honed her squat skills over the years to make her the perfect candidate for such a challenging task.
The full attempt can be seen in this clip below:
Yoshida was aided by Koji and Daiki from Japanese comedy duo Brillian, who were responsible for placing the balloons beneath her buttocks during the attempt. Together, the three of them were able to record a total of 129 pops in 60 seconds, beating the previous record of 104 and officially giving them the Guinness World Record title.
It wasn’t long before the Internet celebrated this wonderful achievement by setting the trio’s balloon-bursting antics to various music tracks.
One Twitter user revealed that Yoshida actually has a history of popping balloons like a pro on air.
Following the record-winning performance, Brillian lifted their T-shirts to the audience, exposing their torsos, which were painted with the words “Saori Yoshida’s bottom is the world’s best”. A fitting end to a compelling moment in Japanese television, and one which was sure to boost the ratings of the reportedly flailing program.
