Lotteria’s Tower Cheeseburger Returns and It Brought Friends: Value, Shrimp, and Puns

Oct 5, 2012

Japanese fast food chain Lotteria is celebrating its 40th anniversary by bringing back the Tower Cheeseburger!  Yes, the Tower Cheeseburger is nothing new: RocketNews24 has reported on it before and, of course, made an ungodly sized burger out of it (pictured above).

Worry not though, as Lotteria has a lot more in store for its big 4-0.  For starters, the price of their 5-storey (five beef patties and five cheese slices) Tower Cheeseburger this year will cost a measly 500 yen! (US$6)

The original Tower Cheeseburger that made a splash in 2010 cost 990 yen (US$13) for a 10-storey with the option of more added on, which we pushed to its structural limit of 30-storeys.  However, to ring in their 40th, Lotteria has some new plans in store.

Lotteria’s 40th Anniversary “Super Cheeseday” & “Super Friedday”

Super Cheeseday:  Tuesday October 16 & 23 at 2:00 to 6:00pm
The Zeppin Tower Cheeseburger (a regular Zeppin Cheeseburger with 3 to 5 storeys of beef and cheese) will be sold for 500yen.
(approx. value: 860-1360 yen/US$11-$17)

Super Friedday: Friday October 19 & 26 at 2:00 to 6:00pm
The Shrimp Tree Burger (a regular shrimp burger with 3 to 5 levels of fried shrimp patties) will be sold for 500 yen.
(approx. value: 530-770yen/US$7-$10)

It should be noted that Lotteria’s Tuesday/Cheeseday pun works a lot more smoothly with a Japanese accent.

In the realm of supersized hamburgers 500 yen for a heart-stoppingly huge burger like this is a steal worthy of a 40th anniversary celebration.  On the other hand such a price at such a limited time may mean there will also be limits on how much we can order.

This may impact RocketNews’ desire to make a ridiculously sized shrimp burger to feed to Mr. Sato, but by god we’ll try!
