All right, we should have seen this coming, especially after Mister Donut Japan came out with original croissant doughnuts earlier this year. But that doesn’t mean we’re any less thrilled with the news — this coming week, Mister Donut will be releasing their very own cupcakes! And hey, even if “Mister Donut” is selling something that’s not a doughnut, we’re definitely not complaining. In fact, we’ll be waiting in line to get a taste of the colorful cupcakes. Let’s see what tempting flavors will be available!
The “N.Y. Cupcakes” from Mister Donuts will come in three flavors — lemon, chocolate and blueberry — each topped with plenty of whipped cream in bright pop colors. As you can tell from the name, the cakes are based on the New York style cupcakes that have already been the talk of sweets lovers here in Japan, and they’re done in a style they’re describing as “otona kawaii” (“adult cute”, literally) that’s girly but not too childish.
And to ensure all that lovely cream doesn’t get smudged when you take the cakes home, each cupcake bought to-go will come in a clear plastic container. They even have a stylish black and pink box for when you want to give the cakes as a gift.
As for the three flavors, they’ve apparently taken a lot of care in selecting the combination of the base cake, whipped cream and topping:
▼This is the lemon cupcake, made from a standard base cake and a refreshing lemon whipped cream, topped with lovely pastel-colored sprinkles.
▼Here’ s the chocolate flavor, a chocolate based cupcake with whipped cream containing chocolate sauce and chocolate flakes, crowned with a cream filled cocoa cookie on top.
▼And this is the blueberry, with a cupcake base containing dried blueberries, to which they’ve added blueberry flavored whipped cream and actual dried blueberries.
After looking at these pictures, we have to say it’s hard to imagine these cupcakes not being well-received, especially by girls who love kawaii sweets. There’s just something about colorfully presented cupcakes that makes your heart dance, isn’t there (or is that just me)?
The cupcakes will be sold for 194 yen (US$1.80) each at Mister Donut shops across Japan from October 15 to the end of December. They’re sure to delight at get-togethers, and there’s no reason you can’t enjoy one as a treat by yourself either, is there? (Don’t worry, we promise we won’t tell anyone…)
