Think back to your high school days. Wouldn’t it have been nice if you could’ve easily disposed of all of your potential romantic rivals in the manner of your choice?
Now you can relive those school-day memories and channel all of your jealous rage into playing Yandere Simulator, a stealth indie game currently being developed by a single man under the moniker of “Yandere Developer.” While the concept behind his game is certainly one of the most unorthodox ideas we’ve ever seen, you’ve gotta hand it to him. It’s not easy trying to get inside the mind of a mentally-unhinged obsessive schoolgirl with murderous tendencies who still comes across as an innocent angel.
First of all, the term yandere refers to a certain type of character found in Japanese anime and other stories. Wikipedia‘s description of yandere is as follows:
“A Japanese term for a person who is initially very cheerful, kind, loving, caring, and gentle to someone (or at least innocent) they really, truly like and care about a lot until their purely intense romantic love, admiration, and devotion becomes feisty, stubborn, bossy and mentally destructive in nature, usually, but not always through either overprotectiveness, violence, brutality or all three.”
The character in Yandere Simulator (appropriately dubbed “Yandere-chan” for now) certainly seems to fit this description to a tee. Right from the start, we see her more-than-a-little creepy obsession with her senpai (upperclassman). She won’t let anything, or anyone, get the way of her love as she stalks him tirelessly.
Now, take a look at one of the promotional videos for Yandere Simulator:
Let’s take a brief look at the basic plotline.
▼ An unknown girl is talking to the object of your (Yandere-chan’s) affections. This situation is of course unacceptable, so the only logical thing to do is to get rid of her.
▼ Choose your weapon of choice and sneak up on the unsuspecting victim.
▼ Oh my God, you actually did it!
▼ Now you have to dispose of the evidence before the police get there.
▼ You would normally have your choice of how to get rid of the body, but let’s use the incinerator today for kicks.
▼ Almost done! Now just make sure to mop up all of the blood.
The game developer makes it clear in his video commentary that the final version of the game will include several different ways for you both to commit murder and to dispose of bodies.
Take a look at another sample video, this time titled “How to kidnap a girl in Yandere Simulator”:
▼ By the way, you can earn bonus “study points” by going to class and brushing up on some of your aspiring-murderer-techniques.
Finally, here’s a tour of Yandere-chan‘s room, where you can
▼ Pray obsessively at a creepy shrine dedicated to her beloved senpai…
▼ …and change Yandere-chan’s panties depending on your mood. Huh.
