Roughly half an hour south of Tokyo by train, the city of Yokohama is a great place to hang out in the summer. The city boasts great dining and beautiful parks, plus most of its attractions are located near the harbor, which is regularly caressed by cooling breezes.
Of course, it’s not just people who enjoy heading down to the bayside capital of Kanagawa Prefecture, but Pokémon as well. Just like they did last year, packs of Pikachus will be spending their summer vacation in Yokohama, and the first ad for their upcoming visit gives us a taste of what’s in store.
By far the highlight of 2014’s Pikachu Tairyo Hassei Chu (An Outbreak of Pikachus) were the periodic Pikachu parades in which the loveable Pocket Monsters migrated en masse from one section of Yokohama’s Minato Mirai neighborhood to another. Practice runs for this year’s event haven’t started yet, but the official Pokémon YouTube channel has put together a collection of clips from last year’s to get us all excited about Yokohama’s returning guests.
That’s not the only group activity they engaged in, though. Occasionally they’d form up and, instead of firing blasts of electricity at each other, perform adorable dance routines.
If their choreographed moves have you squealing from the sudden mega-dose of cuteness, you’ll be happy to know that this year figures to feature even more chances to watch the electric Pokémon busting some moves, as the 2015 event has had its official name changed to Odoru? Pikachu Tairyo Hassei Chu, or Dancing? An Outbreak of Pikachus.
▼ Don’t forget to take your eyes off their fancy footwork for a moment to appreciate the fact that they can also wiggle their ears, as shown off by this guy at the video’s 0:19 mark.
The infestation starts Saturday, August 8, and runs until August 16, so start packing your Poké Balls now, and check our report from last year’s event for a couple of Pokémon safari tips.
