Two-piece set is an exact match to the ones in the magical girl’s anime bedroom.
It’s hardly a secret that most anime bedding is designed with the sleepless, not the sleepy in mind. But while you can find a plethora of risqué huggy pillow covers (whether you’re actually looking for them or not), anime’s most famous magical girl takes the high road in her latest bit of merchandise.
Merchandiser Bandai has just unveiled Usagi’s Bedding Set, named after Usagi Tsukino, the ordinary schoolgirl secret identity of Sailor Moon. Instead of being plastered with images of the sailor-skirted heroine, the duvet cover bears the same bunny and crescent moon pattern as the one on Usagi’s in-anime blanket.
▼ Usagi being the Japanese word for “rabbit” means this should technically be called “Usagi’s Bedding Set (Featuring Usagi)”
Actually, the real-world polyester bedding set is a visual upgrade from its anime counterpart, as it replaces the plain white of anime Usagi’s pillowcase with more of the cute lunar lapine motif.
The duvet cover is 200 centimeters long by 150 wide (78.7 by 59.1 inches), while the pillow case fits pillows 63 centimeters in length. The set is priced at 7,020 yen (US$67), which is a bit on the pricy side, but in keeping with Usagi’s family living in the swanky Azabu Juban neighborhood of Tokyo. Domestic orders can be placed here through the Premium Bandai website, with shipping scheduled for November.
