Latest iteration of anime restaurant also salutes Sailor Uranus and Neptune’s forbidden…smoothie?!?
While the Sailor Moon anime has had the biggest worldwide impact, the animated adventures of the Sailor Senshi are just one aspect of the franchise. Sailor Moon isn’t just an anime, it’s also a manga, series of stage musicals, a live-action TV drama, and, most deliciously, a restaurant venture.
Most anime themed restaurants are limited-time affairs, and that’s true of the Sailor Moon Cafe as well. But because of the Sailor Moon franchise’s phenomenal popularity, its pop-up restaurants pop up pretty frequently, making them almost an annual event. And so the Sailor Moon Cafe 2017 has just announced its dates, locations, and, most importantly, its menu!
Starting with the main dishes, mentor cats Luna and Artemis appear in the Good Friends Luna and Artemis Burger (1,690 yen [US$15]), which actually looks to be two burgers sharing the same plate.
For those craving spice and sensuousness, the Tuxedo Mask Jet-Black Curry (1,490 yen) is garnished with rose petals, the mysterious hero’s customary calling card.
Usagi Tsukino, Sailor Moon’s secret identity, is famous for her sweet tooth, and so the menu is rich with dessert options, like the Legendary Holy Grail! Rainbow Moon Chalice Parfait (1,490 yen), which is surrounded by swirls of cream in the image colors of the Inner Senshi.
The series’ starring couple pose dramatically for the Silver Millennium Pancakes (1,490 yen).
Each of the supporting Inner Senshi also gets her own signature sweets, based on their individual powers (1,390 yen each).
▼ Sailor Mercury’s Bubble Spray Cheesecake
▼ Sailor Mars’ Burning Mandala Anmitsu
▼ Sailor Jupiter’s Supreme Thunder Cream Puff
▼ Sailor Venus’ Love Me Chain Waffles
And if you’re thirsty from your meal, or perhaps from all the excitedly vocal reminiscing you and your Sailor Moon Cafe dining companions have been doing, the anime’s mother and daughter are ready to help with the Sailor Moon Mango Cream Smoothie and Chibi Moon Strawberry Milk Smoothie (990 yen each).
Slightly more upscale are the Luna P Cotton Candy Soda (1,090 yen) and the top-of-the-beverage-line Forbidden…Smoothie of Haruka and Michiru (1,190 yen).
As is the often the case with more popular anime restaurants, seating at the Sailor Moon Cafe is by reservation only, with a cover charge of 650 yen per person. Aside from getting you in the door, that fee also gets you one of three posters and one of four luncheon mats featuring exclusive Sailor Moon Cafe 2017 artwork.
▼ The version you receive is determined at random, but as we learned at the Final Fantasy restaurant in Akihabara, you can always trade with other customers to get the swag you want.
The Sailor Moon Cafe will be open from September 22 to October 29 in Tokyo, September 28 to November 5 in Osaka, September 29 to November 5 in Nagoya, and on dates yet to be determined in Fukuoka. Reservation information can be found here.

Follow Casey on Twitter, where he has to admit that as much as he loves Sailor Jupiter, Love Me Chain Waffles is a pretty awesome name for a dessert.
