Welcome spring the Japanese way with limited-edition sakura motif deerskin purses and wallets

Feb 28, 2019

Carry a gorgeous and stylish piece of Japanese leather tradition wherever you go.

Japanese traditional craft company Inden-ya is well-known for its deerskin leather techniques dating as far back as 1582, designing sleek products that are both peerless in quality and easy on the eyes.

Their latest creation draws inspiration from the flower that symbolizes spring in Japan: cherry blossoms. Called the Sakura Komachi series, carrying this limited-edition line of sakura-motif coin pouches, wallets and purses is a great way to embrace the coming of a beautiful season.

▼ Inden-ya has only released official images of five accessories,
but a total of 15 different products are available in stores.

Inden-ya’s trademark lacquered patterns on supple yet sturdy deerskin forms the basis of this series. Using unique techniques faithfully passed down numerous generations, leather is first smoked on a cylindrical frame using smoking straw, then fumigated with pine resin. The material is dyed stark black, then intricately decorated using special stencils and a Japanese “urushi” lacquer that acquires a special sheen over time.

Each piece is hand-made and carefully inspected by Inden-ya’s master craftsmen to ensure they meet the company’s high quality standards. The end result is a gorgeous collection of scenes depicting cherry blossom flowers blooming in night.

Inden-ya has not yet made these very limited items available on its online shop nor have they specified how much each item costs, so the best way to check out the Sakura Komachi range is to head down to one of their stores in Tokyo, Yamanashi, Osaka, or Nagoya. And while you are at it, why not check out some of their magnificent samurai-inspired accessories?
