Join the mad ice cream scientists of SoraNews24 as we play god with everyone’s favorite frozen treat.
Now that temperatures have been soaring over here in Japan, people are finding cheap and clever ways to stay cool no matter how silly they might seem. Yet despite all they do, nothing beats the age-old method of eating delicious frozen ice cream.
Baskin Robbins is quite huge in Japan, regularly attracting customers with its wide variety of flavors — always 31 at any one time — to tantalize the taste buds. And as our Japanese-language reporters at SoraNews24 are always looking for ways to beat the summer heat, someone went ahead and bought a scoop of every flavor.
▼ “Yes, you heard that right. Give us all of them!”
▼ All for a total of 8,800 yen (US$83). Money well spent.
21 of them were regular flavors of Vanilla, Popping Shower, Love Potion 31, Jamoca Coffee, Matcha, Strawberry Cheesecake, Chocolate, Caramel Ribbon, Muskmelon, Chopped Chocolate, Rum Raisin, Bananas ‘N Strawberry, Jamoca Almond Fudge, Chocolate Mint, Nuts to You, Dainagon Azuki, Cookies ‘N Cream, Orange Sorbet, Very Berry Strawberry, Rocky Road, and Lemon Sherbet.
The last ten were limited-edition summer flavors featuring Pikachu Thunderbolt Fruit Mix, Monochrome Love Cheesecake, Honey Lemon Honey, Happiness Wedding, Peach Melba, Yummy! Grape, Daiquiri Ice, Rainbow Sherbet, Cream Soda, and Caramel Praline Cream.
▼ Lining them up on the table like this is so pleasing to the eye.
But hey, digging into 31 balls of ice cream one by one is too old-fashioned by SoraNews24 standards, not to mention that summer is all about exciting flavors bursting with life and energy and all that.
Which is why when someone whipped out an empty pot, everyone unanimously agreed to create a refreshing new flavor by combining it all together.
▼ After all, the greatest recipes always start with the best ingredients, right?
▼ “The world will tremble at our creation. Mwahahaha!”
▼ Vividly-colored ice cream quickly turned into
a greyish brown mush with gelato consistency.
▼ And when they finally put the fruits of labor into their mouths…
▼ …their brains struggled to identify what they had just eaten.
All traces of sherbet, Matcha, Dainagon Azuki, Rum Raisin had completely vanished, leaving a monstrous-looking dessert tasting faintly like chocolate and carrying a strong berry scent with a hint of mint. Give it a sensational name like “Fruity Spooky” or “Ghastly Chocolate”, and it might become a popular flavor during Halloween. Maybe.
▼ Watch their entire experiment right here.
While the Frankenstein ice cream did not taste bad, all 31 flavors were diluted to the point where it would surely confuse the mind. But our advice is that if you really love turning existing stuff into something new, perhaps combining two flavors or just turn them into an ice cream shake would be a good place to start.
