Someone free them, please!

We can’t express to you in words how excited we were to hear about the Pokemon invasion at Baskin Robbins Japan, and if you thought we would pass up this opportunity to put a SoraNews24 twist on it, you’re dead wrong. We visited a nearby Baskin Robbins to scope out the goods and have a taste of Pikachu.

The first thing we noticed were the adorable Pikachu and Eevee ice cream cakes in the display window. They’re only available by reservation, so sadly, we weren’t able to grab one on our spontaneous visit. The cakes are 3,300 yen (US$31.09), but prices may vary by store.

▼ Would you go for Popping Shower with strawberry, or Caramel Ribbon with milk chocolate?

We wasted no time in getting what we came for: the Pikachu Thunderbolt Fruit Mix ice cream flavor in a Pikachu cup with a Pikachu spoon. It cost us a well-spent 580 yen.

▼ You get your choice of Pikachu, Mewtwo, or Mew for the special design cup.

We placed our order and stared longingly at the Pikachu Thunderbolt Fruit Mix sign.

▼ How many Pikachus do you think we got inside our scoops?

▼ The little red bits remind us of Pikachu’s adorable cheeks!

Out of the three types of spoons, we were handed our randomly-selected eating utensil and began chomping down.

▼ This little pocket monster looks ready to fight our taste buds.

As we devoured our fruity and chocolatey mixture, we had a sudden realization: you can make shakes out of any ice cream flavor at Baskin Robbins Japan. What better time to take advantage of this than now? We went to order a shake of the Pikachu ice cream and the conversation went something like this:

Baskin Robbins staff: What would you like? (smiles)
Writer: A Pikachu…
Baskin Robbins staff: The Pikachu Thunderbolt Fruit Mix, right? (smiles)
Writer: A Pikachu shake.
Baskin Robbins staff: (smiles)

Baskin Robbins staff: A Pikachu…shake. (wry smile)

It cost us 650 yen, but we were excited to see the results.

▼ It obviously doesn’t look as vivid since it’s more liquid-y now.

When we looked towards the bottom of the cup, though…

▼ What have we done!? Free him!

We drained our shake and tried to rescue the drowning Pikachu, but to no avail – the chocolate Pikachu are too big to be sucked through a straw. They were left stranded at the bottom of the cup.

▼ All they have now are each other…

All joking aside, we think the Pikachu flavor is delicious and definitely worth a try. Share it with your Wrinkly Pikachu plushie!
