Is it a sign of manliness to have highly potent semen? It’s certainly a valuable trait for heterosexual men hoping to exercise their virility and extend their hereditary lines, though it seems a bit more difficult to measure and compare than, say, the length of one’s third leg.
Evolutionary biologists worldwide have a particular interest in the quality of common spunk, and some have dedicated years of research to discovering the secrets to producing potent semen. Turns out it’s perfectly possible to both train and trick your body into making better sperm. So, whether it’s for the bragging rights or a better chance at fatherhood, here are a few tips to turning out top-notch sperm.
According to associate professor Yukio Yasui from the Evolutionary Biology Department at Kagawa University, the quality of a man’s sperm is determined by two factors. The first is quantity: how much sperm is contained within the semen. The second, speed: how fast the sperm can move to reach a woman’s egg. The likelihood of fertilization is highest if semen contains a lot of highly active sperm, with high-quality semen that which is dense with fast, little swimmers.
So what can a man do to increase the quality of his semen? Some think that if they refrain from masturbation for an extended period, that will thicken their juices, but research tells us that this actually lowers the overall quality of their ejaculate. Dr. Mariko Yamashita, author of the book The Lady Doctor Will Teach You – Nighttime Troubles Consultation Clinic, explains that if a man denies himself masturbation, his sperm expend a great deal of zinc before being released, causing them to lose mobility. So, even if the quantity does increase, the speed drops drastically, and thus the overall quality suffers.
Instead, Dr. Yamashita encourages the daily consumption of protein.
In Dr. Yamashita’s observations, many Japanese athletes exhibit signs of having particularly potent semen, evidenced by their propensity for shotgun weddings. Her theory is that this is a result of the vegetable-based protein products that the majority of them consume. The athletes’ attempts to build strong muscles with the help of soy products and protein shakes also impact the speed of their sperm. So, a healthy body that’s powered by protein can be expected to possess equally healthy sperm.
Oh, but what if a daily diet of protein drinks sounds like too much trouble to keep up with? In that case, here’s some happy news! According to a study conducted by Professor Leigh Simmons from the University of Western Australia, it’s entirely possible to give your sperm a quick, though temporary, boost in quality!
In an experiment conducted in 2005, Professor Simmons inspected the semen of 52 heterosexual men between the ages of 18 and 35. He asked the men to masturbate to two very erotic pictures: the first was an image of three sexually engaged women, while the second depicted just one woman and two men tangled together in sexual intercourse. Comparing semen samples collected from the two sessions, it was discovered that the stirring image of heterosexual entanglement inspired the production of much higher quality sperm. Apparently, when a man’s unconscious brain registers the presence of competition, the competitive power of his sperm will increase, though it takes a particularly stimulating picture to prove effective.
So, if any of you fellas out there find sperm quality to be of particular importance, all you need to do is make sure to masturbate regularly and stimulate yourself with some hardcore hetero porn or consume a daily dose of soy protein for lasting results. Just be certain to take care with this newfound power, and always use protection, unless you’re already planning for parenthood with your partner, that is!
