When most Americans hear the name Conan, they’re likely to think of either Conan the Barbarian or Conan the Late-Night TV Host/O’Brien. But when people in Japan hear “Conan,” they immediately think of the star long-running anime hit Great Detective Conan (which was released in the U.S. under the title Case Closed).
After being transformed into a child, brilliant detective Shinichi Kudo chooses the alias of Conan Edogawa, borrowing his new first name from Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle. But even trapped in the body of a young boy, Kudo continues solving crimes. Like Doyle’s famous consulting detective, no detail escapes the sharp eyes and clever eyes of Conan.
Well, except for this gigantic art mistake in a recent episode of the Great Detective Conan anime.
We’re a little behind on our anime backlog, so we haven’t watched the episode in question. What we do know is that at some point during the caper Conan, along with some of his young friends, visit a woman who’s recovering in the hospital.
The woman is still too weak to stand, so Conan’s group gathers at the edge of her bed. Still, the relaxed atmosphere makes it look like she’s going to be OK, and also that this episode’s case has been solved. As such, the great detective is technically off the clock, but still, we’d expect his powers of observation to still be able to pick up on something like this.
Can you spot the suspiciously unnatural aspect of this scene?
Forget who the criminal mastermind behind this week’s crisis is. What we want to know is why that bed is so huge!
Seriously, there’s easily enough room for four people to lie down on that mattress. Is there a cache of stolen diamonds hidden under those expansive sheets? Does the woman have some serious dirt on the hospital administration and is using it to blackmail them into giving her such palatial accommodations?
We think it’s Conan’s duty to investigate right away. Before he pulls back the covers, though, he might want to call a forensics team, because it just might be where the killer stashed the missing half of that Prince of Tennis character.
