Japan’s first kaiten-sweets shop brings the fun of conveyor-belt sushi to Valentine’s chocolate

Jan 14, 2018

Get your chocolate fix on with a twist for a limited time at SWEETY LOFT in Ginza.

Starting Monday, January 15 Japan will roll out with its first conveyor-belt sweets shop SWEETY LOFT to be set up in the Ginza-area LOFT department store. This new take on selling chocolate and other tasty treats takes inspiration from kaiten-zushi, or sushi-go-round restaurants that are oh so popular in Japan and the world over.

A 15-meter (almost 50-feet) long conveyor belt will carry around a selection of the best limited-time and original sweets, chosen especially for the Ginza LOFT store. In addition to the unique shopping experience, the chefs and pastry shops who created the original sweets will hold demonstration sales and tasting events on the weekends.

Some of the chocolates and sweets that will be available include cacao caramel from PATH for 864 yen (US$7.76), fondant cacao from PACHAMAMA for 3,024 yen, macadamia nut chocolate from Sincere for 1,296 yen, a variety of chocolate bars from Minimal-Bean to Bar Chocolate starting from 1,080 yen, and much more!

The special items to be available during their Saturday-only demonstration sale and tastings (from 1 to 4 p.m.) are Lille-style Amazon cacao waffles for 380 yen, hot Amazon cacao for 400 yen, and Amazon cacao tea, also for 400 yen.
