What with desktops, laptops, all-in-ones and tablets, we now have an enormous amount of choice when it comes to buying a new computer. While many of us enjoy the raw power that giant desktops have to offer, others prefer the simplicity and convenience of tablets with their slim designs and fingerprint-absorbing touchscreens.
With the Kira L93, Japanese electronics giant Toshiba is clearly hoping to cover all of its bases and please even the most indecisive computer buyer. With a 13.3-inch touchscreen that can be rotated 360 degrees, stand, detachable keyboard and stylus, the latest entry in the Dynabook series can be used up to seven different ways, making it one of the most versatile machines on the market.
It won’t burn holes through your desk or lap any time soon, but Toshiba’s new laptop is no slouch when it comes to sheer grunt, either. The Kira L93 packs a Core i5 4210Y CPU, 8GB of DDR3 memory, a 128GB solid-state drive, and with its keyboard weighs just 3.8 pounds and is a mere 0.6 inches thick–markedly thinner and lighter than a typical Macbook Pro.
But it’s the way it can be twisted into all manner of setups that’s most striking, with Toshiba boasting seven different ways to use its new Dynabook.
There’s traditional notebook style;
completely flat;
“campus” style using the touch screen and stand;
“tent” style for watching movies in bed or protecting small rodents from the elements while camping;
“stand” style for when you need more height and have limited desk space;
“desktop” style with the detachable keyboard (this one would actually be very useful in this writer’s opinion);
and finally tablet style, where you simply hold the computer like you would your iPad or non-specific Android device please don’t get me Apple haters.
Here’s Toshiba’s promo video for the new laptop.
The Kira L39 is slated for a “late June” release, but as yet there are no details on price.
What do you think, Rocketeers? If Toshiba manages to keep the price down would you consider picking one of these flexible computers up? Or are you perfectly happy with a typical desktop for work and a tablet for when you’re out and about? Let us know!
