And the award for the most yandere operating system upgrade goes to….
Anyone who owns a Windows 7 or 8 PC has known the struggle the past several months of your computer giving you near daily “suggestions” to upgrade to Windows 10. And even if you don’t own one yourself, you can see how ridiculous it gets when even digital billboards have the upgrade popping up on them.
Sure, it’s important to update in order to get the latest security features, but isn’t an important part of being an adult being able to make choices yourself, even if they’re not necessarily the best? Not flossing, spending your rent money on Doge accessories, and gorging on ice cream buffets are all terrible decisions, but hey, they’re our decisions to make, gosh darn it!
One Japanese artist has had enough of Windows 10 taking away his decision-making power. @ponzholic drew up this short manga to show off his experience with Windows 10, and we can’t help but empathize:
▼ “Windows 10-chan’s upgrade methods are escalating….”
(Comic/translation below.)
1. It Starts Off Innocent
Windows 10-chan: “Do you want to upgrade to Windows 10? It’s free!”
Me: “Enh, I appreciate the thought, but the software I use isn’t compatible with 10, so I’ll say no for now.”
Windows 10-chan: “Oh… okay….”
2. Things Start to Get Weird
Windows 10-chan: “Do you want to upgrade to Windows 10 now? Or do you want to upgrade later?”
Me: “Uh, wait a minute, are those my only two options? That’s like asking ‘Do you want rice with your meal, or would you prefer your meal with rice?'”
3. A Line Has Been Crossed
Windows 10-chan: “So will we upgrade now? Or… tonight?”
Me: “No! Stop with these meaningless choices! I don’t want to upgrade at all!”
Windows 10-chan: “Don’t worry… everyone else is doing it….”
Me: “That’s just because you’re forcing them to!”
4. The Point of No Return
Windows 10-chan: “Don’t worry, master! I scheduled an upgrade for you!”
Me: “What?! What are you doing?! Cancel! Where is the cancel button?!”
5. Too Late
Windows 10-chan: “The deed is done.”
(Windows 7’s blood on sword)
Me: “Nooo!! Stooop it!!”
I don’t know about you, but I’d say that’s a pretty accurate representation of my experience with Windows 10 as well. Here’s what Japanese netizens had to say:
“This could not be more true to life.”
“Windows 10…you’re like a stalker.”
“Curse you, Windows 10-chan!”
“I’m still in the ‘Starting off Innocent’ phase. I wonder how long it will be until she pulls out the knife?”
Stay strong, young netizen. Windows 10-chan may look cute now, but it’s only a matter of time before-
▼ Oh no! It’s got me! Get out while you still can!
