It’s hard to believe that’s the same pooch.
As we’ve seen time and time again, two photos of the exact same person can look nothing like each other. Makeup, lighting, posture, and even the clothing and accessories being worn can all have a huge effect on how attractive the subject looks.
The phenomenon is by no means exclusive to female photo subjects, and it seems it’s not even limited to humans. Takase Hanazono is a flower farm located in the mountains of Fukuoka Prefecture. While its official Twitter account sometimes posts images of the beautiful flora produced on the premises, such as bellflowers and dahlias, Takase Hanazono is more likely to share snapshots of the animal friends of the facility’s staff.
Shortly after the start of the new year, Takase Hanazono tweeted two pics of a Shiba Inu, the breed of dog most loved by the Internet (and also seemingly the breed that loves the Internet right back). But while these are indeed two shots of the same pooch, the results couldn’t be more different.
“The dog pushed its face into something ash-like, and it wound up looking like a tanuki. Yesterday, when we put a ring of flowers around its neck, we could take a picture of it that’s as girlishly cute as the ones high school girls take at the sticker picture booths, but today it just looks terrible.”
You’ve got to admit, the photo on the right definitely has the perkier, friendlier aura. But still, there’s something to be said for the macho world-weariness of the photo on the left. One online commenter even pointed out that the dog’s dirty forehead makes it look like hard-boiled manga/anime hitman Golgo 13, a perennial icon of classic masculinity.
It just goes to show that no matter what Shiba Inu are up to, they always find a way to command our attention.
