Simultaneous launch of two new drinks makes Frappuccino fans’ day twice as nice.
Back in the fall, Starbucks Japan released a limited-time strawberry Frappuccino, then broke out hearts by taking it away. This month, though, the chain is giving us a double-dose of drama, as not only has the strawberry Frappuccino returned, but in a startling twist, it has a surprise twin!
April 11 was the official launch day for the Strawberry Very Much Frappuccino Red and Strawberry Very Much Frappuccino White, or, if you’re going by their official renderings, the #STRAWBERRYVERYMUCHFRAPPUCCINO__RED and #STRAWBERRYVERYMUCHFRAPPUCCINO__WHITE. As you might expect from their pre-hashtagged names, they’re both very pretty to look at.
But after you’ve snapped and shared your pics, you’re going to want to drink them, right? So how do they taste and, unless you’re as gluttonous as we are and just get both, which one should you order?
First, let’s run through the starring ingredients. They’re both cream-based Frappuccinos, made with strawberry cream, chunks of strawberry fruit, strawberry syrup, and whipped cream sprinkled with strawberry powder, because Starbucks is serious about fulfilling the “strawberry very much” part of the deal.

The key difference is that the Strawberry Very Much Frappuccino White adds white mocha and strawberry macaron chunks.

This makes the Red the more liquidy and refreshing of the two, though it’s still packed with a generous amount of fruit. It’s the better choice if you’re thinking of your Frappuccino as a beverage, since it’s the more thirst-quenching and refreshing of the pair.
On the other hand, the White has more grit to its texture, thanks to the crumbled macaron bits, and is the more substantial and filling of the two. If you think of your Frappuccino as a dessert to be enjoyed leisurely, this is the way to go.

One thing that doesn’t factor into the decision-making process, though, is price, as both the Strawberry Very Much Frappuccino Red and White cost an identical 640 yen (US$5.75) for a tall. Another sibling similarity they share is their availability, as both will be on the menu until May 14, which is thankfully a bit longer than Starbucks usually gives its seasonal Frappuccinos, since there are two to try this time.
