Over 200 companies from 19 countries are said to be operating booths at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, but visitors to the four-day long event may notice that one major world power turned out to be a no-show.
Across from the bustle and bright lights of the SEGA booth is the China Pavilion, a desolate floor space occupied only by a few pillars equipped with large screens streaming demo movies and a few empty fold-up tables and chairs.
There has been no official statement pertaining to why Chinese game companies decided to bail on this year’s show despite having bought the floor space, but chances are it has something to do with recent anti-Japanese protests in China.
For shame, but weary Japanese attendees seemed grateful to have a nice open space to sit down and rest. Thanks China, I guess you guys don’t hate Japan so much after all!
