It’s customary for companies in Asia to hold year-end parties (bounenkai in Japan, weiya in Chinese-speaking countries), and these often reflect the state of the companies. In a good year, employees will be treated to lavish affairs complete with lotteries, extravagant performances and attractive prizes. However, one Chinese company stole the limelight this year with their ‘cash grabbing game’ that guarantees everyone a winner!
No Monopoly money in here! Employees of this company in Zhejiang Province, Wenzhou City were probably elated when their CEO brought on these lottery boxes. However, instead of lottery tickets, the boxes contained nothing but 100 RMB (US$16) notes! Anyone who plays the game gets to keep however much they could grab – now that sounds like a dream come true, doesn’t it?
Itis said that the CEO provided about 800,000RMB ($129,000) in cash for the employees to snatch to their hearts’ content. Apparently the best ‘grabber’ of them all took home 20,000RMB ($3,000) in cash. Unfortunately, only the top performing employees got to have a turn at the money box. Now that’s one good way to provide motivation for the coming year!
