Here at RocketNews24 we’re pretty big fans of funny and unpredictable Japanese TV ads, whether they’re for Cup Noodle, Batman dubs, or English schools.
And just by looking at the thumbnail for this Japanese ad for World of Tanks, the multiplayer online game that just announced that it’s coming to PlayStation 4 this year, we knew we were going to be in for a treat.
First, for point of comparison, let’s look at the announcement trailer from World of Tanks’ English-language YouTube channel. This one has everything we might expect from a game about tanks: there’s dramatic crashing, welding sequences, metal components flying everywhere, and the sound of gunfire over a guitar solo.
Now let’s see how the game is being advertised in Japan. This one’s a TV commercial (as opposed to online…although it’s also on YouTube because that’s how the world works now), and it comes from the Japanese branch of Wargaming, the developer responsible for bringing World of Tanks to consoles.
Check out the Japanese ad for yourself below:
▼ (That caption that pops up onscreen with the girl’s artwork says “So you like big guns, eh?”)
▼ Incidentally, WOT JAPAN is pretty much what we were thinking when we saw this too.
What do you make of this commercial? Should English-language ad producers be taking a leaf out of Japan’s advertising ideas book?
