Bored of the game? Finding nothing but Pidgeys and Rattata? These make the list, but can you guess the number one reason?
It’s been over 10 weeks since Pokémon GO was released in the United States, and has subsequently taken the world by storm. Pokémon mania is still going fairly strong, but there is no doubt that it has lost its initial magic for some.
Japanese market researching company MMD Laboratories (the MMD stands for Mobile Marketing Data) conducted a survey last month, interviewing a total of 2,190 people between the ages of 15 and 69 regarding their gaming habits with Pokémon GO.
While in the beginning it seemed that everyone and their mother was playing the game, as it turns out, of those surveyed, 62.3 percent had never played the game. When broken down by age group, the 60-and-over category had the highest percentage of non-players overall, with that percentage gradually decreasing along with the age bracket.
Of those who have played the game, 24.2 percent of all respondents were still playing it at the time they were surveyed, while 13.5 percent had quit.
MMD asked the 825 players surveyed to rate the game overall on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best rating. The vast majority – nearly 20 percent of those surveyed – gave the game a very mutual 5-point rating. The next most selected rating was 7 points, given by 17.2 percent of those surveyed, and then 8 points, given by 13.7 percent.
Finally, those surveyed who said they played Pokémon GO at one point but had quit playing (a total of 295 people of the original 2,190 interviewed) were asked to give the reason why they gave up the game (multiple answers were accepted). The number one reason, given by 42 percent of those questioned? It uses up all of their battery. This has certainly been a complaint I’ve heard among my friends who have played or are still playing the game. Sometimes, it seems, even backup batteries just don’t cut it.
After eating up battery life, other following responses for quitting the game were:
2. There isn’t much to do (on the game) at home – 38.3%
3. It’s the same thing over and over – 37.6%
4. It’s always the same monsters showing up – 31.5%
5. Gaming while walking is dangerous – 23.4%
6. Not finding any rare monsters – 21.4%
7. Felt playing the game was a waste of time – 20.3%
8. Didn’t understand what was fun about the gyms – 17.3%
9. Not finding any monsters – 16.6%
10. Leveling up is troublesome – 16.6%
11. There are no nearby PokéStops – 13.6%
12. The level of monsters at gyms are too high – 12.9%
13. I ran out of Pokéballs – 5.4%
14. There are no gyms nearby – 5.4%
15. People I knew stopped playing – 2.4%
16. Other – 12.5%
How to these responses compare to your experience? If you stopped playing Pokémon GO, what was your main reason for doing so? Let us know in the comments!
