Turns out your white blood cells are awesome cold-blooded killers.
The world just got a little weirder when Hataraku Saibou (Cells at Work!) was released as a manga almost three years ago depicting the daily routine of a human body’s immune system in anthropomorphized form.
Little did we know that the brilliant concept of incorporating faces and personalities into the 60 million cells in our bodies would be such a cult hit, culminating in an anime adaptation to be aired from July this year.

Anime adaptations tend to be hit or miss, but the Cells at Work! team has pulled in some big names in the anime industry to make sure everything goes smoothly, including Kenichi Suzuki (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure) as director and Yuuko Kakihara (Chihayafuru) as series composer. Character designs will be handled by Takahiko Yoshida (Yowamushi Pedal), and music by Kenichiro Suehiro (Re:Zero).
▼ My little red blood cells can’t be this cute!
▼ When nasty bacteria invade our body…
▼ …it’s time for our ruthless white blood cells to step in.
Japanese netizens are overjoyed at the news:
“I’m so stoked!”
“I’m sure everyone’s biology grades will skyrocket. It’s thanks to this that I always get full marks in my biology exams.”
“The staff working on it is truly impressive.”
“I’ve waited for this for so long!”
“White blood cells are seriously so cool.”
Thanks to Cells at Work!, viewers will know exactly just how awesome our bodies are in combating the nasty viruses and bacteria permeating our environment. While it probably won’t explain how S-cells transform Saiyans into superhuman beings, it’ll help boost our biology grades at least.
