Looks like Green Day’s frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, needs to add anger issues to his growing list of ailments requiring rehab. Armstrong was apparently infuriated by the success of Korean pop star, Psy, and his record breaking sensation, Gangnam Style, which made its rounds while Armstrong was serving a stint in a clinic for alcohol and prescription pill abuse. The rocker experienced a “flareup” of sorts at the news that Psy’s epic follow-up, Gentleman, was racking up similar praise.
Certainly Armstrong wasn’t the only person that expected Psy to fade into one-hit-wonder obscurity, but he was supposedly so angry at Psy’s sophomore international effort, that he took to his Instagram account to rant about it, uploading a photo of Psy with the following caption:
“This dude is the herpes of music. Once you think it’s gone, it comes back. #herpes #flareup #pleasegoaway.”
Armstrong may be jealous of more than just Psy’s success; Newsday reported recently that a large public broadcaster in South Korea banned the new Gentleman video for its depiction of Psy casually kicking over a No Parking sign, which is by far a more punk rock move than anything Armstrong has done since the early ’90s.
True to his newest hit’s title, Psy proved a perfect, if slightly confused, gentleman towards the insult, telling Fuse – after asking the meaning of herpes – that he thinks, “It’s cool. He said I’m like the herpes… that keeps coming back. I think it’s really cool. Thank you.”
