Many couples strive to plan a perfectly unique wedding. From nonconventional backyard ceremonies to destination weddings in far off places, there is no limit to the delightfully strange and creative ways people tie the knot. However, JR East is giving one lucky couple the chance at a wedding most people have probably never dreamed of.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the Yamanote Line’s green color paint job, JR East is searching for a couple to get married while riding a train on one of Tokyo’s busiest railway lines. JR has even created a special “Green Yamanote Line Wedding Train” for the occasion.
The train/wedding ceremony will start and end at Ikebukuro Station, making a complete loop on the Yamanote Line. The reception will be held at Hotel Metropolitan located near Ikebukuro Station where the newly married pair will cut a specially designed Yamanote wedding cake. The couple chosen for this unusual wedding will be allowed to invite 80 to 120 guests, but unfortunately won’t be able to choose when they get married; JR has decided on Monday, October 14, Japan’s official Tetsudo no hi (Railway Day), as the wedding date.

Those interested can download an application form from the official webpage (applications must be sent via mail). You have until July 9 to apply for this bizarre wedding, but with the number of gropers lurking around Japan’s trains, we hope the guests (and the bride for that matter) are safe!
