TM 1

MSNBC discussion takes a suddenly dirty/creamy turn.

They say it’s not polite to discuss religion, sex, or politics, but I suppose Rick Wilson gets a pass on the last one. U.S.-based broadcaster MSNBC describes Wilson as a “Republican media consultant,” which, vague as it may be, is still far more specific than Wilson himself manages to be in his Twitter profile, where he describes himself as a “GOP media guy.”

As part of his media guy activities, Wilson recently appeared on an MSNBC panel discussion regarding the upcoming U.S. presidential election. At some point the conversation turned to candidate and political lightning rod Donald Trump, and most viewers were probably expecting Wilson to talk about the far-from-center rhetoric that’s come out of the Trump camp regarding economic and immigration policies.

Instead, Wilson decided to talk about anime.

Well, anime and jerking off, as he decided to drop this pearl of knowledge:

“The screamers and the crazy people on the alt-right, as they call it, you know, who love Donald Trump, who have plenty of Hitler iconography in their Twitter icons and thing, they think Donald Trump is the greatest thing. Oh, it’s something. But the fact of the matter is most of them are childless single men who masturbate to anime.”

TM 2

While fans of Japanese animation and early 20th-century German fascism aren’t always mutually exclusive groups, I’d have to argue that the connection is far from absolute. Moreover, Wilson’s pejorative tone as he refers to the extremely specific demographic indicates that in his mind such a group’s political opinions are less valid than:

● Childless single women who masturbate to anime
● Single fathers who masturbate to anime
● Married men, with or without children, who masturbate to anime
● Childless single men who masturbate to something other than anime

It’s also sort of disturbing that Wilson phrases his statement as “the fact of the matter is most of them are childless single men who masturbate to anime,” implying that he has confirmed not only said sexual preferences, but also the associated self-pleasuring activities.

▼ Why are you watching otaku masturbate, Rick Wilson?

TM 3

But hey, isn’t there a chance that Wilson isn’t trying to come down hard on sexually aroused otaku, but just to express his opinion that they don’t exist or vote in enough numbers to sway the election one way or another?

Nope, because he goes on to say:

“These are not people who matter in the overall course of humanity.”

Adding a bit of tasty irony to this is the fact that the successful campaign efforts of Taiwan’s just-chosen president-elect included animated videos of her as an anime-style catgirl. And the situation becomes even more mineral-rich in light of Wilson recently retweeting this tweet to his followers:

TM 5

You’re calling out people for their geeky hobbies while referencing science fiction TV miniseries V? And not the 2009 remake, but the 1983 original?

Seriously, Rick, glass houses. People who live in them shouldn’t throw stones, or peek in on what their neighbors are masturbating to.
