Are you ready to live the virtual dream?
For years we’ve been trying to put ourselves in video games via virtual reality. But maybe we’re looking at it all wrong? Instead of trying to put ourselves inside a video game, maybe we should try to build the video game around us.
Take Japanese Twitter user @thumb_tani, who is doing just that with some glow-in-the-dark phosphorescent tape.
▼ “I bought phosphorescent tape, but I didn’t know what to do with it,
so I put some on the door. It feels so cyber! This is super fun.”

They started off with just a simple design, making it feel like they were living in an Atari or NES game, but quickly got a graphical upgrade.
▼ “Finished! It’s like I’m in a cyber adventure.
I’m feeling the possibilities for this tape.”

But even with the door looking right at home in a Tron game, they weren’t satisfied. It was still flat.
Oh yes. It was time to go 3-D.
▼ “I didn’t want to leave the tape on the door too long since it might leave marks,
so I took it off and started putting it on other stuff. Like my microwave.”
あの後、ドアにテープ跡が付くと困るので撤去しました。テープは捨てるのももったいないので、あちこちに貼ってました。

Undeniably cool. Although living in a house with video game graphics would have its downsides. You’d have to watch out for stray polygons, and the second my hand glitches through the microwave, I’d freak out.
One commenter pointed out that the glowing tape style looked oddly familiar:
▼ “Reminds me of Moonside from EarthBound.”

Just be careful. You don’t want to accidentally put yourself into any dangerous games:
▼ “Hello and, again, welcome to the Aperture Science
computer-aided enrichment center.”
