When discussing the gut-wrenching question, Japanese man looks outside the box…and into the heart of darkness.
One of the quickest ways to get a quick feel for a person’s psyche is to set up a scenario in which he or she has to choose between a number of things that are all important. If your home was on fire, what one thing would you save? If you could eat dinner with any one person on the planet, who would it be?
Property can be replaced, though, and passing up one opportunity for another right now doesn’t mean you won’t get to do both eventually. What really makes the responses to such hypothetical questions telling is when the question is one of life and death, like the one put forth by Japanese Twitter user Ayato Fujisaki.
“If both your lover and your best friend were drowning, which of the two would you save?” Fujisaki asked his Twitter followers. It’s a heartbreaking decision, as both romantic love and platonic friendship are immeasurable precious. If possible, anyone would want to save both, right?
Well, maybe not Fujisaki, whose response for the question “Would you save your lover or your best friend?” is:
“What the hell are the two of you doing all alone together?”
Thousands of Twitter users couldn’t help but laugh at Ayato’s darkly humorous take on the situation, with online reactions including:
“Hahaha he’s got a point.”
“LMAO.”
“Drowning in love. It’s turned into a soap opera.”
“I think they’d both drown while I was deciding what to do.”
“’Don’t you remember? The three of us came to the beach together!’”
As demonstrated by the last commenter, there are actually possible explanations that don’t involve the drowning pair having a tryst behind the potential rescuers back. Still, should you ever find yourself going to the beach with Fujisaki, it might be a good idea to make sure there’s a lifeguard on duty before you go for a swim.
