Studio Ghibli meals from the world of Japanese anime look absolutely delicious in real-life【Pics】

Nov 7, 2017

This beautifully styled collection recreates all the tiny details from the best animated meals.

If there’s one thing that fans of Studio Ghibli love more than the adorable cast of characters from their favourite films, it’s the tantalising animated food scenes, which feature all sorts of delectable meals.

Ghibli food has such a following that a cooking event in Osaka is solely dedicated to the topic, and a Japanese elementary school even used the studio’s films as the inspiration for a week of school lunches. Everyday cooks have also tried their hand at preparing meals seen in the films, but now there’s a fan on Instagram called en93, who’s blowing everyone away with a new collection of Ghibli meals that’s so beautifully detailed it has hungry stomachs grumbling everywhere.

Let’s take a look at some of the amazing meals below!

First up, we have Satsuki’s bento lunchbox from My Neighbour Totoro, which comes complete with broad beans, a sardine, an umeboshi pickled plum, and sakura denbu, a sweet and salty pink flaked-fish condiment that’s served on top of rice.

Then we have some piping-hot ramen noodles with thick slices of ham, served up in bowls that look just like the ones used in Ponyo.

▼ There’s the meatball pasta from the 1979 film The Castle of Cagliostro

▼ The egg-on-bread from Laputa: Castle in the Sky

▼ And a tall multi-layered sandwich from Ponyo.

There’s also wine and cookies from When Marnie Was There, and a bento lunchbox, as seen in From Up on Poppy Hill.

Many of the dishes have been beautifully recreated, complete with matching crockery and utensils, like this egg-and-bacon dish from Howl’s Moving Castle

▼ This cheese-and-onion sandwich picnic from Tales from Earthsea

▼ And this picnic-come-to-life from Howl’s Moving Castle.

▼ This soup looks identical to the one seen in The Secret World of Arrietty!

There are plenty of sweet treats in Ghibli films too, like these delicious baked goods from Kiki’s Delivery Service

▼ The Siberia cake slice from The Wind Rises

▼ And the tea party platter from Spirited Away.

Spirited Away contained a number of mouthwatering food scenes, including one where the characters dine on rice with salad, ham and fried eggs, and another one where Lin (Rin) serves up rice with takuan, a crunchy pickled radish, on the side.

▼ There’s even a recreation of six-armed Kamaji’s fried tempura meal!

Porco Rosso appears in the collection too, with a meal that captures all the atmosphere from the restaurant in the film.

Fruit and vegetables also appear in the collection, like this ear of corn, which is etched with the words “To Mum“, just as it is in My Neighbour Totoro.

With so many gorgeous images in the collection, en93 has amassed a huge fanbase of more than 71,000 followers on Instagram, who’ve fallen in love with her beautifully styled anime food images.
