Those noisy but endearing aliens are coming to invade your underwear this time around!
Yummy Mart, the lingerie and women’s apparel store located in Tokyo’s fashion hub of Harajuku, has teamed up with classic manga/anime Urusei Yatsura for a limited-time collaboration. Originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine between 1978-1987, the series propelled author Rumiko Takahashi to legendary fame as she went on to pen Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, Rin-ne, and other hits beloved worldwide. The manga also spawned a 195-episode anime series, multiple films, and a dozen OVAs, influencing countless other works in the past 40 years.
There’s perhaps no better choice for an Urusei Yatsura real-world product collaboration than a collection of innerwear, and no better spokesperson than series’ female protagonist Lum, given her signature look of a scanty tiger-striped bikini. The Yummy Mart collaboration includes five different products including bras, undies, and even a pouch as outlined below:
“Bralette set” (4,980 yen [US$45]), comes in medium size
Lum, her infant cousin Ten, and lightning bolts are highlighted on this popping pink bralette with matching panties. An edge of sheer lace adds a fun stylistic element to the set.
“Shirt pajamas” (5,980 yen), comes in small or medium size
When all you want to do is lounge around at home and rewatch your favorite Urusei Yatsura episodes, these comfy, 100-percent cotton pajamas are definitely your best bet.
“Micro mini one piece” (4,980 yen), comes in small or medium size
This offering is meant to function as a nightgown but we don’t see why you couldn’t pair it with some coordinating clothing items while out of the house! The distinguishing touch is a set of detailed breast pocket embroideries featuring Lum and Ten.
“Panties” (1,680 yen) comes in small or medium size
These panties are standard Yummy Mart fare with an Urusei Yatsura twist. Chubby little Ten and the Yummy Mart logo are splashed all over the pink fabric.
“Clear heart pouch” (3,980 yen) comes in one size
The only non-clothing item in the collection, this one-size clear plastic pouch in the shape of a heart is perfect for taking to the beach or pool to safeguard your electronics. Or, you could always gift someone the bralette set inside of it!
Yummy Mart started taking in-person preorders for the Urusei Yatsura collection on March 30 at their Harajuku location. Online orders will be available on their official site beginning on April 3.
