Taiwan’s moe train mascot’s new image song somehow reminds Japanese netizens of erotic games

The “K.R.T. Girls”, moe mascots fronting the line for Taiwan’s Kaohsiung Rapid Transit (KRT), are no stranger on our humble website. Just recently, we saw them taking over their trains with full-length decals, and just a couple of days ago they released a new image song for one of the girls that briefly mentions a few of the stations along the subway lines.

It’s a catchy pop tune befitting of the cute, refreshing image of the mascot girls, but some Japanese netizens are saying that it sounds like a theme song for an erotic game. Give it a listen after the break!

“Buddhists’ Disneyland” the Pure Land Cave is the trippiest place on earth

In Kaohsiung, Taiwan, there stands a massive Buddhist complex set up by the half-century-old sect Fo Guang Shan. It is a sprawling 30 hectares (74 acres) and contains the nation’s largest monastery, a 36-meter (132 foot) tall Buddha statue, as well as an enormous Buddha Memorial Center in the shape of a pyramid.

However, for our correspondent Kowloon Kurosawa the real action could be found in the Pure Land Cave. It’s an attraction rumored to have been patterned after Disney’s It’s a Small World ride. However, as we’ll soon see, Buddhism is not so much a “small” world as it is a creepy and psychedelic one.

Dashboard camera captures the fear and chaos of Kaohsiung’s deadly gas explosion

In Southern Taiwan’s Kaohsiung City in the late night of 31 July and early morning of 1 August a series of explosions broke out over a wide area. A pipeline carrying gaseous petrochemical feedstock was leaking and eventually ignited causing the devastating large-scale blasts.

Fiery explosions were witnessed over a range of two to three kilometers. Recent reports count 24 people killed and a further 250 injured. Sitting far from the scene of the disaster, it can be hard to imagine how violent and frightening it was for those involved. However, a dashboard camera’s footage taken in the midst of the explosions brings the incident to all of us in surreal detail.
