To promote their new album Meeteen (ミーティン), quirky pop-rock ensemble Dainari><Konari (Greater Than >< Less Than) released a highly exclusive song online. In fact, it’s so exclusive that once you listen to it it will remain locked forever.
Full of questions I embarked on this journey, worried that the song may be so catchy that I’d go crazy if unable to hear it again.
I got off to a rocky start. It appears that this once in a lifetime opportunity is not open to Firefox (and possibly IE) users. Although for some reason it still gives me options to “Tweet about this song” or “Connect with other people who played this song” on facebook.
After firing up Chrome the big red button is ready to push. And god knows how much I love pushing big red buttons. Here we go!
Awww, now I have to dig up my Twitter account that I haven’t touched since February 2011.
After forgetting my password and spending what felt like a lifetime resetting it, finally I could hear this song.
The song runs for maybe one and a half to two minutes with animations of greater-than/less-than signs and red dots. It’s hard for me to really get into a song on one listen but it wasn’t bad. It’s kind of like if the Beatles did a Japanese diarrhea medicine commercial. By that I mean the guy seems to be singing about being on a train with a stomachache wanting to get to a bathroom. As far as Japanese music it kind of reminds me of Tama. Overall, I’d give it a three and a half stars out of five and want hear more from them.
In the end you are thanked for listening and given links to websites selling Dainari><Konari’s album. While the song wasn’t anything mind-blowing all in all this was a pretty good publicity stunt. It got people like me writing about it.
